Inauguration Of The Fuel Cells Laboratory At The University

Press Release

The Fuel Cell at the Czech Technical University

The opening ceremony of the fuel cells laboratory was held on April 14, 2005, on the board of the Czech Technical University, Faculty of Electric Power, Prague. The pilot project for the fuel cells utilisation in the Czech Republic, which was managed and realised by ENVIROS, was supported within the National programme for support of energy savings and utilisation of renewable energy sources 2004. Hydrogen fuel cells represent a very promising technology of power and heat generation with zero emissions. The tape was cut by the Deputy of the Minister of Industry and Trade Mr. Martin Pecina, MBA, and the Dean of the Faculty of Electric Power Prof. Vladimir Kucera. The deputies of the Czech Energy Agency, universities, Electricity Market Operator, Science Academy of the Czech Republic, State Environmental Fund and other institutions were also present.

The primary aim of the project was introduction of modern alternative technology for combined heat/power generation in the Czech Republic, demonstration of the fuel cells in operation including measurements of load course, verification of fuel cells utilisation as a cogeneration energy source. The secondary goal of the pilot project was to engage scientists in preparation and particularly operation of the fuel cells in order to put this new technology nearer the students of the faculty – future energy managers.

The fuel cells are placed in a specially designed laboratory enabling holding of expert seminars and presentations, aimed also at eventual co-operation with Czech industrial and production companies.
