The EBRD is hosting its Energy Efficiency Excellence Awards ceremony for the third time in Slovakia on 25 November 2010, celebrating the most successful investments implemented in the country with the support of joint funding from the Bohunice International Decommissioning Support Fund (BIDSF) and the EBRD.
The Slovak Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Finance Facility (SLOVSEFF) is a grant-supported credit line aimed at promoting energy efficiency investments in Slovakia’s private sector through local participating banks. Under the framework, Slovak companies may borrow up to €2.5 million to finance energy-saving investments, benefiting from a financial incentive from the BIDSF upon successful completion of the project. In addition they receive free technical consultancy from SKM ENVIROS (Czech Republic), which is also financed by BIDSF funds.

To date, SLOVSEFF has supported hundreds of projects in Slovakia, including energy efficiency improvements in 315 residential buildings, 34 industrial companies, as well as 7 renewable energy projects with over €68 million having been utilised under the programme. It is estimated that these projects will lead to savings of more than 293,000 MWh annually, equivalent to the electricity consumption in a city like Košice (about 80,000 households).
„Through these awards, the EBRD acknowledges the most successful energy efficiency and renewable investments implemented under SLOVSEFF and celebrates the economic and environmental benefits achieved by our clients in the residential and corporate sectors. These projects represent an excellent showcase of how energy efficiency investments help households to cut their energy bills and support businesses by boosting their competitiveness through innovative energy-saving investments.” said Jan Fischer, EBRD Vice President.
